A good exhaust system

A car engine functions by burning fuel and air in the enclosed cylinder and pistons. The heat of reaction expands the gas in the piston increasing the pressure inside, which then forces the piston downward, creating motive power. This is similar with the functions of a pressure cooker where the water heated by the burner to become water vapor increasing pressure. This pressure gradually lessens are the piston travels down the cylinders but never gets close to atmospheric pressure before the exhaust valves open. This pressurized air enters and is collected in the exhaust manifold. This manifold is connected to the car exhaust system which directs the air outward.

For some poorly designed exhaust systems, the pressure builds up in the exhaust system which causes an increase in pressure in the exhaust manifold. This in turn increases the pressure in the cylinders. This increased pressure means there is more spent air remaining in the cylinders when the cycle progresses into fuel intake. This means less fuel is taken in and therefore reduces power. Thus, a good exhaust system reduces this back pressure and therefore provides better power output. For more information on the functions of exhaust systems please refer to exhaust tips posted in some web sites.

What makes a new car?

A 2010 Mazda RX-8 is currently worth around US$28,000 depending on model. A five year old 2005 Mazda RX-8 is now just US$8,000. This is 350% drop in value. Assuming the car has had no major engine and chassis destroying accidents, the older car is just 5-years old and most engine and chassis and maybe shock absorbers would probably still be in good condition, especially if the owner has taken good care of it. Now let us see the cost of replacing all replaceable parts with Mazda accessories.

The top of the line body kit for this model cost US$2,100. Top dash kits costs US$250. Front grills cost US$170. Nice HID Kits Headlamps cost only US$150. Nice tail lights can cost US$250. Black Rhino Rims for the RX-8 cost US$200 each for a total of $1,000, including spare tire. Lambo Door upgrades cost US$1,300. Top of the line side vents costs US$500. Borla exhausts cost US$1,000. Injen SP series Air intakes cost US$370. Depending on make and model sport tires are aroung US$100 each for a total of US$500 including spare. Assuming new steering wheel to be US$1,000 and new leather seats for US$2,000 this total reaches US$10,590. With the cost the 2005 RX-8 the total is just US$18,590. Let’s set aside US$500 dollars for engine parts and another US$1,000 dollars for new shocks and this total reaches about US$20,000. Thus, with these accessories and replacement parts, a 5-year old car can look better than a standard 2010 model for about US$8,000 less, the price of another used 2005 RX-8. Although technically still an old car, a car with all new parts, looks new, smells new, via new dash and leather seats, and runs like new is, for all intents and purposes, a new car. Thus, accessories are not expenses but can be methods of saving as proven here.

Car Insurance

My husband and I moved and have insurance to cover our home.  A few months later, we thought of buying a car.  Of course we know how important getting a cheap car insurance can be.  We went online and did our homework.  We got the best quotations, the best coverage, the best deals from many insurance carriers. We also called the company covering insurance on our home.

Naturally, the insurance company already knew us and gave us tips on how to save on car insurance without sacrificing coverage. They explained that a brand new car is better covered with a full insurance and that the more complicated the car is, meaning the more it is loaded up, the expense goes up.  But they did offer discounts on a bigger deductible and that with no accident or claims every year, the No Accident discount gets bigger.  There is also the low mileage discount.  But the best discount, is having our car insurance and home insurance covered by the same company.  With all these discounts you are guaranteed to get the cheap car insurance you deserve and still be adequately covered.

Tire Tips

• Unless you have the luxury of using multiple sets of tires for your 4×4, select a design that meets the worst driving conditions you expect to face. When you’re stuck axle deep in mud, you’ll forget all about how comfortable your highway rib tires have been.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    • When you buy replacement tires, make sure they meet or exceed the original tires’ load capacity.Tires that don’t will wear out faster and make the truck handle poorly. You also run the risk of tire failure, especially when the vehicle is fully loaded.
• Radial tires dominate the market. There are many reasons for this, but one of the most important is that the design helps the tire envelop an obstruction rather than bounce off it or be punctured. Radial tires are available in each of the tire types presented in this guide.
• Light-truck tires feature beefier construction. Generally, they can handle heavier loads and rougher terrain. Depending on the design, they may ride rougher than passenger-car tires when you drive on the highway.
• Sidewalls are a tire’s Achilles’ heel. If you routinely venture into terrain with sharp rocks or thorny vegetation that can pierce the sidewall (such damage is not repairable), consider tires built with three-casing plies in the sidewall.
• Be aware that the sophisticated electronic equipment found in modern trucks can be negatively affected by a change in tire size. There is an acceptable range, but if you exceed it your truck’s performance may suffer Consult a knowledgeable tire dealer if you’re considering changing tire size.
• A set of good tires isn’t cheap. (The range of good tires runs from $400 to $800 depending on the brand, size, and whether you buy them on sale.) Regardless, buy the best tire you can afford. Cheap tires aren’t worth the money; they’ll wear out faster and perform poorly.
